What is Fred?
Fred is a conversational AI assistant that adds voice and text chat to your website. Visitors talk to Fred like a knowledgeable employee, and Fred answers questions, captures leads, guides purchases, and books appointments around the clock.
Is Fred a chatbot?
No. Traditional chatbots follow scripted decision trees. Fred uses advanced AI to handle natural, open ended conversations. You set instructions and guardrails, you do not build flows.
What platforms does Fred support?
The WordPress plugin is available today on WordPress 6.2+. Fred Cloud, coming soon, is a managed option that works on any platform with a lightweight connector. If you are not on WordPress, Fred Cloud is your path, and you can join early access now.
Do I need to code anything?
No. With the plugin everything is point and click from the WordPress dashboard. Fred Cloud is also no code.
How much does Fred cost?
Two plans: Single Site at $597 a year (regularly $997) and Multi-Site up to five domains at $997 a year (regularly $1,997). AI provider costs are separate. Enterprise, government, and agency pricing is available on request.
Are there per lead or per conversation charges?
No. No hidden per lead fees, no per conversation charges, no revenue sharing. You pay the annual license plus your own AI provider usage.
How long does setup take?
About 15 minutes for basic setup, around 45 minutes with consent, guardrails, and CRM, and 2 to 3 hours for full configuration.
Does Fred store personal information?
Fred stores consent records and redacted transcripts. Sensitive data like card numbers and SSNs is detected and scrubbed before anything is stored, so raw sensitive data is never written to your database.
Does Fred send data to third parties?
Conversation messages go to your chosen AI provider for processing, and lead data goes to the CRM you configure. Fred does not sell, share, or monetize your data beyond what you set up.
Is Fred GDPR or HIPAA compliant?
Fred provides compliance tooling: consent, retention, redaction, and export and deletion tools, plus healthcare guardrail packs. Fred is not itself certified or licensed. Consult legal counsel for your requirements.
Does Fred support voice?
Yes. Real time voice with OpenAI or Gemini, text with all four providers, and a hybrid mode that lets visitors switch mid conversation.
Do I need my own AI key?
Yes. Fred is a platform that orchestrates providers, so you bring your own key and control your costs and your provider relationship directly.
Does Fred work without WooCommerce?
Absolutely. Fred is great for lead generation, service, and booking. Commerce features only activate when WooCommerce is present.
How is Fred different from a custom GPT or a tool like Drift or Intercom?
Fred is AI native, supports real time voice, includes 45+ compliance guardrail packs, delivers leads to your CRM in under a second, and does not charge per seat or per conversation at most tiers. You own your data and your configuration either way.
