What is Fred?
Fred is a conversational AI assistant that adds voice and text chat to your website. Visitors talk to Fred like a knowledgeable employee, and Fred answers questions, captures leads, guides purchases, and books appointments around the clock.
Is Fred a chatbot?
No. Traditional chatbots follow scripted decision trees. Fred uses advanced AI to handle natural, open ended conversations. You set instructions and guardrails, you do not build flows.
What platforms does Fred support?
Fred Cloud is live on WordPress, Shopify, Drupal, Wix, Lovable, static sites, and custom stacks through lightweight connectors.
Do I need to code anything?
No. Fred Cloud uses a lightweight connector and guided setup. White-glove installation is also available if you want us to configure the deployment for you.
How much does Fred cost?
Fred Cloud is $297 per month for up to 250 pages and 50 documents. Fred Cloud Pro is $397 per month for up to 2,000 pages and 200 documents. Fred Everywhere adds phone and SMS for $100 per month. White-glove installation is a one-time $2,000 purchase. AI provider costs are separate.
Are there per lead or per conversation charges?
No hidden per lead fees, no Talk to Fred markup on AI usage, and no revenue sharing. You pay your Cloud subscription and your AI provider directly. Carrier usage for phone and SMS is billed through your connected provider account. Confirm usage rates and any phone-number charges with your provider.
How long does setup take?
Setup time depends on your content, provider account, consent choices, guardrails and integrations. Plan time to review the configuration before launch.
Does Fred store personal information?
Fred can retain consent records and conversation data according to your deployment settings. Redaction targets configured patterns and can miss information or be disabled. Review retention and connected-service settings before collecting visitor data.
Does Fred send data to third parties?
Conversation messages go to your chosen AI provider for processing, and lead data goes to the CRM you configure. Fred does not sell, share, or monetize your data beyond what you set up.
Is Fred GDPR or HIPAA compliant?
Fred provides compliance tooling: consent, retention, redaction, and export and deletion tools, plus healthcare guardrail packs. Fred is not itself certified or licensed. Consult legal counsel for your requirements.
Does Fred support voice?
Yes. Real time voice with OpenAI or Gemini, text with all four providers, and a hybrid mode that lets visitors switch mid conversation.
Do I need my own AI key?
Yes. Fred is a platform that orchestrates providers, so you bring your own key and control your costs and your provider relationship directly.
Does Fred work without WooCommerce?
Absolutely. Fred is great for lead generation, service, and booking. Commerce features only activate when WooCommerce is present.
How is Fred different from a custom GPT or a tool like Drift or Intercom?
Fred is AI native, supports real time voice, includes industry and regional guardrail packs, delivers leads to your CRM after contact capture, and does not charge per seat or per conversation at most tiers. You own your data and your configuration either way. Delivery time depends on the configured integration and receiving system.
